"Our Anthems" was recorded in 1996 as the follow up to "Our Pledge". We were so sure the first LP was going to go somewhere that we started working on a new record before "Our Pledge" was even released. I really believed that this original combination of Krautrock, Eno, and Dome, as well as our own unique talents would make The Pickle Factory a household name in alternative music households. I pressed 1000 CDs and 500 LPs of "Our Pledge" and sent boatloads of promos to everyone I could think of. Alas, "Our Pledge" was one of the biggest financial disasters in Swill Radio history, and that is saying something. This failure sent Mike Popovich back into retirement, where he remains to this day. This is a loss for musical civilization, as Mike is a great bass player and all around interesting musician. "Our Anthems" is a bit different from "Our Pledge" in that there are more vocals. Karla does more of her beautiful siren singing and Mike does more of his radio altered slogans. I still have never heard anything quite like The Pickle Factory even after all of these years. Gorgeous edition on Twisted Knister, which we all appreciate. Hopeful, beautiful, and pessimistic.
